
Columbia County is growing by leaps and bounds. This is evident by the growing traffic, filled classrooms and overcrowded buses. HERE. Since no new schools are opening right now, the rezoning is more of a shift. This is the first time Columbia County has rezoned like this and some residents are having to get used to it. HERE. They want there child to attend the best school they can and with the rezoning plan, many residence are not too happy. Columbia County Board of Education Chairman Regina Buccafusco said "If we don't shift some student out of there, we'll have over 1,300 student in that school that's made for 900. That's a whole extra school on that campus. ", talking about Baker Place Elementary. While some are unhappy about the decision, others are expressing appreciation that Columbia County are keeping parents informed and are including them in the decision making process. "That shows you what kind of board we have, that they listen and the things they say aren't just for talk. They really want to take the input from families in Columbia County," a parent said. Families will have their chance to speak again at two public meeting in January. One thing is certain, Augusta is growing, and that's a good thing!
